It originated in Hawaii and in almost every Hawaiian themed music you can hear the sounds of the ukelele. I will never forget watching The Don Ho show hearing him sing the song “Tiny Bubbles” strumming along on his ukelele. Tiny Tim was a big man with long hair and a high pitched voice that played the ukelele on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, that was very entertaining. The ukelele is a real fun and easy instrument to play, you can even learn how to play it on the internet. I like to take my ukelele with me when I go to Hawaii. I pretend that I am Don Ho as I walk on the shores of the Hawaiian Islands.

Gibson Custom has announced the Gibson Custom Jimmy Page Number Two Les Paul Limited Edition guitar modified by the legendary Jimmy Page himself. Here’s what they have to say in their press release…

Every musician knows that late ’50s Sunburst Les Paul Standards are hard enough to come by as it is. Obtaining a pristine and exemplary ‘59 ‘Burst and modifying it for heightened performance and vastly expanded tonal options? Unheard of… unless, of course, you’re Jimmy Page. That’s exactly what the legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist, perhaps the world’s most iconic Les Paul player, did with his own ‘59 Les Paul Standard, and now–thanks to the extreme efforts of Gibson’s Custom Shop and the intimate cooperation of Jimmy Page himself–the artist’s hallowed “Number Two” Les Paul is available to mere mortals, in the form of the Custom Shop Jimmy Page “Number Two” Les Paul. Produced in strictly limited numbers, with two levels of aging, this guitar captures the look, feel, sound, and versatility of one of the greatest artist-owned Les Pauls of all time, and it is likely to disappear from authorized Gibson dealers in record time. Greg Shenkman likes this idea.

Greg Shenkman loves the guitar and loves music in general. My six year old niece has shown an extreme interest in everything music. She adores the piano, loves the guitar, and attempts singing. I don’t know if she’ll go anywhere with her love of music but I think its great to encourage a child’s passion for music and the arts. For Christmas, I decided to get her her first acoustic guitar. I found a small pink one, perfect for a first guitar. Of course, If she stays interested and picks it up, then I will upgrade her next year, providing her parents aren’t sick of hearing it. I can’t wait until she opens up her guitar on Christmas and Greg Shenkman gets the chance to teach her a few chords.

Today I tried out Gibson’s Luthier’s Choice triple pack which consists of a 4 oz bottle of hi-gloss polish, a 4 oz bottle of string cleaner/lubricant. and a 4 oz bottle of fretboard conditioner.

What the string cleaner does for strings is simply amazing. I heard about this and similar products; however, I never used them. I figured when my strings get that dull, I’ll just change them.

Today was very busy and I didn’t have time to go and purchase strings, much less restring and tune the guitar. I thought “why not give the luthier’s pack a shot. This stuff was amazing in that it restored the original brilliance of my strings as it removed dirt and other buildup.

It’s funny how almost everything you buy has a money back guarantee or replacement for a defective product, except the Airline Industry. It seems that the airlines aren’t held to the same standards of delivering quality products, like every other business. I recently took a trip to Mexico and our plane was delayed about two hours, which they had said over the loud speaker “due to inclement weather”. On all airlines, if a plane is delayed because of weather, the are not liable for the delay. At the time, I hadn’t even heard of any storms in the path of the plane, but didn’t think to much about it. I later overheard an airline worker saying to her co-worker that the plane that was late because of maintenance. It was clear that everyone that was going to be on this flight was going to miss their connection and be forced to stay over until the next morning and the airline was lying about it being the weather so they didn’t have to pay for accommodations for all the passengers. I think it’s a joke what the airlines are allowed to get away with.

I’ve been thinking about all of the upcoming holidays and every year I feel like you have to figure out months in advance where and who you ae spending them with, especially when you’re in a relationship. Do we go to my, Greg Shenkman’s families, or my wife’s families for the holidays. You can never please everyone, even if we decide to have the holiday at our home and invite both sides of our families. There is always that one relative that doesn’t want to see another relative because he/she said something rude last time or smells funny. At what point can you just get away for the holidays and it be acceptable. I love my family, but oh the drama associated with them. Any suggestions? – Greg Shenkman
